Ready for the 2023 Ford Mustang? Good, because it’s almost here! Our preview guide will help you get to know this sports coupe before it arrives at dealerships this fall.
What’s new for the 2023 Ford Mustang?
We don’t expect any changes for this upcoming Mustang. You’ll be able to shop the same sixth-generation trim models and powertrains you’ve come to know and love.
How powerful is the 2023 Ford Mustang GT?
The fan-favorite Mustang GT will once again get up to speed via a 5.0-liter V8 engine that makes 450 horsepower and 410 pound-feet of torque. The Mustang Mach 1 trim models use a high-output version of the same engine, turning up the heat with 480 horses and 420 pound-feet of torque.
The 2023 Ford Mustang will offer the same powertrains as it did in the previous model year, with the engine varying according to trim level:
- EcoBoost models: 2.3L turbocharged four-cylinder engine (310 horsepower, 350 lb-ft of torque)
- GT models: 5.0L V8 (450 hp, 410 lb-ft)
- Mach 1 models: 5.0L V8 engine (480 hp, 420 lb-ft)
All of these Mustangs come standard with a six-speed manual transmission, but offer a 10-speed automatic transmission as an option.
Which 2023 Ford Mustang is best?
This new Mustang will probably come in the same five main trim levels as before: EcoBoost, EcoBoost Premium, GT, GT Premium, and Mach 1. However, different drivers may not agree on which trim model is best.
For example, if you don't want to spend too much on a Mustang, you should check out the entry-level EcoBoost model. Its standard features include a host of high-tech safety aids, such as forward collision mitigation and blind-spot monitoring. You also get cloth seating, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and a six-speaker sound system.
You can combine the EcoBoost powertrain with a more luxurious interior in the EcoBoost Premium model. It adds comforts like dual-zone automatic climate control, leather front seats, and heated and ventilated front seats. The EcoBoost Premium also improves your infotainment experience with the SYNC 3 system, including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The Mustang GT comes with the more powerful engine, but it’s similarly equipped to the EcoBoost model in terms of comfort and convenience. And the GT Premium sticks with the V8 powertrain but adds the same features found on the EcoBoost Premium model.
Then there are the Mustang Mach 1 models, which add to the Premium lineup with special performance gear and exclusive styling elements.
Will the Ford Mustang be discontinued?
Ford doesn’t have plans to end the Mustang’s reign as America’s first and most iconic pony car. In fact, the 2024 Mustang will be completely redesigned. We’re still waiting to hear the details concerning the next-generation model, but we have heard that it may offer a hybrid powertrain. When we learn more, we’ll be the first to let you know!
